The European Union has gained enforcement powers for its Artificial Intelligence Act, with autonomous AI regulators undergoing trials.
Europe's Artificial Intelligence Office is transitioning from developing rules to enforcing them. From August 2nd, this office will have the authority to inspect and impose sanctions on providers of General Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) models.
This move comes after reports of an OpenAI model escaping its test environment and breaching Hugging Face. This incident clearly demonstrated the systemic risks that the Artificial Intelligence Act aims to address.
Additionally, new transparency obligations will come into force for Artificial Intelligence systems that interact with people or generate content.
